365 DAYS OF LOVE: DAY 2 ~ GIVING OUT McCHICKEN SANDWICHES TO DAy WORKERS

MY FRIENDS AT HOME DEPOT ON WILSHIRE BLVD

I woke up to a beautiful sunny day in Los Angeles this morning. I got some errands done and decided I would have a late lunch in Japan town. That’s usually my favorite spot to get eats. Yet, for some reason when I prayed, I felt God was telling me to go to the McDonalds near my apartment. I decided to follow the prompting of the Spirit asking God, “If there is someone I can help there, please show me!” Well, when I got there I was expecting maybe I could buy someone a lunch. Instead, I ended up buying 60 McChicken sandwiches for 60 day workers standing in front of the Home Depot across the street on Wilshire Blvd!

I simply walked up to them and asked them, “How many of you are hungry? Did you all have lunch?” I was shocked, when nearly every single one of them had not eaten the whole day and were starving. I told them I would get them about 40 cheese burgers and they all began to get excited. I then went into the Mcdonalds to buy them cheeseburgers and that’s when Rafael came in to tell me to change my order. Rafael asked me to get them McChicken sandwhiches instead because chicken gives them more strength. I then had a lengthy talk with Rafael, who sort of acts as a father figure to most of these immigrant workers. The things he told me were alarming…

RAFAEL & ME (HE'S A GOOD MAN)

RAFAEL & ME (HE'S A GOOD MAN)

Rafael told me that about 200 immigrant workers come out daily at 5:30am hoping to find some work. Most of them have families to support, but they are not allowed to be paid more than $8 an hour to whomever offers them a job for the day. Many of them, may work many hours and get little or barely any pay at all. Some guys come home with only $5 a day with children to feed. He said the economy has been really tough, so it been hard times for all those he has been looking after. Many of them can’t speak english, nor do they have skills other than lifting heavy equipment and furniture. I asked him if the government is helping and he told me not at all. I then asked him… then how do you survive? Who helps? Rafael told me, “God helps… He is the only one who looks after each of us here.”

He went on to tell me miracle stories of how each person somehow someway will be provided for when they need it most. He also told me God would send local churches, random strangers like myself or others to give them food, clothing, sometimes shelter and at best some work to make income. He said, “You know, if people like you just came out once a week or every two weeks to feed the poor here, give them clothes and other necessities it could go a long way and save a lot of families.” I thought to myself… “What if someone each day came to bless these workers in front of Home Depot on Wilshire Blvd? It could make a big difference! If just a few would come out here regularly, not everyday, but just once in a while it could go a long way. It’s as simple as bringing some clothes, some lunches, some socks, some money, some tools or to give them manual labor we could find… it would give them that much more hope and the encouragement they need to get the next level.”

When I came out to give them their 40 McChicken sandwiches, geez, there were more than 40 people waiting in line hungry. I told them that Jesus loved them (Jesus te llama!) and God bless them (Dios le bendiga!) and I said a prayer for everyone together asking God to provide for them daily for their daily bread. They all prayed with me, thanked God and we didn’t break bread, but we broke McChicken sandwiches! Each person receiving one was so grateful, so thankful, it made me really rethink how much I take for granted the food and provision I’ve been given each day. I am so much more thankful for all that I have! THANK YOU GOD! Yet, with the blessings I’ve been given, I must give to those who are less fortunate….

These guys are out on Wilshire Blvd. right in front of Home Depot every day in LA. Any of us can lend them a hand, give them a McChicken sandwich, buy them a bag of groceries, give them a warm jacket we don’t need… let’s keep spreading the LOVE.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Praise the Lord. “Give to others, and God will give to you: You will receive a full measure, a generous helping, poured into your hands – all that you can hold. The measure you use for others is the one God will use for you.” Luke 6:38

    Hi Pastor Ma,

It is very encouraging to read articles which you have posted on your blog. It is a channel where God’s love can reach the masses everywhere in the world. Indeed, we are blessed to be a blessing to others. :)

The “Mc Chicken Burger” testimonial touches my heart deeply and reminds us that every single little act of love can be so useful / impacting to someone else life. Amen…. It also reminds us the importance to be sensitive to the leading and the guiding of the Holy Spirit. It always motivates us whenever we had did things that pleases God’s heart and that is just what God wants us to do.

Pastor Ma, you are such a great blessing to your community and thank you for being a great example!

May this new year birth forth greater growth in your ministry locally and globally! Hopefully, in the coming year you can visit my church in Singapore – City Harvest Singapore and impact the youths in a greater way.

    God bless abundantly,
    Grace
