EAST WEEK #49 ~ THE NEED TO FOCUS

When I got my first 52’ inch TV screen that came with a Playstation 3 console. I haven’t owned a TV or a video game console for more than 10 years. I haven’t owned one for a reason, simply because I don’t want to waste time. Well, I’m afraid I fell into PS3 temptation this past week. The night we got our big screen TV and the PS3 my room mate, a few friends and I stayed up till nearly 5am playing with the PS3 and surfing the web watching random youtube.com clips. Now, I don’t think there is anything wrong with watching TV, playing video games or randomly surfing the web, but I do believe it can become a distraction if you let these forms of entertainment get in the way of what needs to get done.

The reality was that the next day my roommate and I had to prepare early morning for an important church retreat in the mountains. We were to prepare many things the night before for the event, sadly, we never got to them.  After playing around and wasting time for nearly 6 hours, at the end of our time I looked at my roommate and said, “What just happened? We totally just wasted a whole night and got nothing done!” We ended up

EAST WEEK #46 ~ SOMETIMES YOU JUST NEED TO STOP….

For a lot of us (myself included) we just don’t know when to stop. Especially when it comes to work. We grow up in a Western culture and society that puts a heavy premium on finding value in what we do and what we accomplish. We are brought up thinking that more we do, the more we are. The moment we stop busy activity in our lives, we lose ourselves and don’t know who we are. In fact, if we are not busy doing something we feel restless, uncomfortable and guilty at times.

This busyness or I don’t know when to stop syndrome has been especially true for me through the years. I have had to work hard at not working hard. Many times, if I am not helping someone, writing an email, responding to a text message, or getting some kind of work done I feel guilty for it. You may ask,

East Week #45 ~ I AM WHOLE LIFE

Many of my readers know that I am an advocate for the promotion and culture of LIFE.  I know that it is only by grace that I am alive today after almost having my life taken away from me multiple times. For me, human dignity and life must be protected at every stage and every level. Whether that is protecting the life of an unborn child, or protecting a young girl from being sold into child prostitution, or making sure that every child in this world has food to eat and a loving family to grow up in, life must be protected. In that sense, I don’t see myself as only pro-life which has become a political divider in North America between those who believe abortion is wrong and those who believe that abortion is within the choice of the mother to keep or not keep, rather I see myself as whole life. Whole life meaning, if I advocate that abortion is inherently wrong because it takes away the life of a human being who has no will to choose, then I can not just say it is not right, but I have to be able to

East Week #44 ~ LIFE IS SHORT, LIVE FOR TODAY

On a trip overseas I went to Hong Kong, then Seoul Korea and finally Vancouver Canada to finish my trip. I never thought that my trip would end the way that it did, but I almost lost my life in a car accident. During my whole time in Vancouver, which was only for three days, I had this overwhelming feeling that something life endangering was going to happen. I was there to perform at a mini concert and also preach to students at a local conference. When I arrived in Vancouver the first day my driver almost got into a car accident two times. The second day another driver almost got into an accident on the freeway. I sensed in my spirit something bad was going to happen so I began to pray from the second day onward for my own protection and safety. The last day, as my driver was driving me to the international airport to head back to Los Angeles something incredible happened…

East Week #38 ~ 7 Reasons Why We Need to Pray for Israel

I was in Jerusalem Israel for an international convocation with over 3,0000 Christian Leaders around the world gathering to pray for the nation of Israel. I was speaking to many in this small but important nation about how Israel is important to not only God, but to the Asian nations. Why should we pray for Israel?
