EAST WEEK #19 ~ “I LOVE MOM”

Some weeks ago, it was mother’s day and I had the chance to go back home and visit my beloved mom. I can never thank God enough for giving me the best mom in the world! Of course, everyone has the right to call their mom, the best mom on the planet, because all mothers deserve to have that title with all that they do for us.

Where would each of us be without our mom? The world would be lost without mothers who take care of us, love us and make us who we are. I think many times, we don’t appreciate our mother’s for all that they are and do for us. For me, I feel so ashamed thinking back to when I was a teenager and how I rebelled against my mother. I used to make my mother cry almost every day because of my bad behavior. She gave me advice, but I didn’t listen. She served me sacrificially, but I didn’t appreciate it. She prayed for me daily, but I only ignored her more. It was my pride that didn’t allow me to listen and learn from her.

Today, I can only think about how my mother is the most loving person I have ever met or known. Sure, my mom is not a perfect mom, but I don’t expect her to be. If we expect our parents to be perfect, we will be very disappointed. What I’ve learned is to love my mom for who she is, not for who she’s not. Deep down, whether I agree or disagree with mother on issues, I know her heart is always looking out for my best interest. I love my mom!

• I love my mom for deciding to give me a chance at life. My mother was single, without a job and all alone in the United States with my two older sisters when she discovered she was pregnant with me. She could have decided to abort me, instead she had the courage to keep me and give the opportunity to live.
• I love my mom for working so hard running a baby daycare throughout my childhood and adolescent years to make sure I had clothes to wear, food to eat and an education to learn. It wasn’t easy for my mom to work and provide for three children on her own, but she did it, because she is “super mom!”
• I love my mom for being so patient, caring, compassionate, forgiving and loving to me even though I caused her so much hard ache and pain. Her love for me was always unconditional no matter how many times I hurt her, rebelled or gave her a bad attitude.
• I love my mom for all her timely advice, counsel and wisdom when I needed it the most. My mom would always be there for me whenever I needed her to be. She was always willing to listen, share her thoughts and always sought to give me help whether that was spiritually, physically, nutritionally, or mentally.
• I love my mom most of all for praying for me. If she did not pray for me all those years I was lost, I probably would have never found God, found myself and be who I am today. It was a miracle that I turned from my life of darkness and sin, really because my mom is “my miracle.” …Mom I love you!!!

I hope that all of us can take a moment today to stop and reflect about how awesome our mom is. Whether you have a great relationship with your mother, or you have a horrible relationship with your mother, remember she is your mother! She is the one that gave you birth, she is the one who fed you food, she is the one who clothed you, she is the one who served you, she is the one who probably loves you more than anyone else in this world. We may not always agree with our mom about everything. Yes, our mothers may have strong views, different opinions or things we don’t like about them, but I’ve learned to let go of what I can’t change about my mom and to love her for the incredible person she is. We need to honor our parents, especially our mom’s because they don’t have an easy job. Moms are the best mom’s know the best and mom’s believe the best. So think about one way you can show your mom love today, because you are not promised to have her tomorrow. Let’s celebrate and respect mother’s day everyday! Call your mom right now and tell her how much you appreciate and love her! ^^

數周前是母親節，我終有機會返家探望媽媽，她是我心目中最偉大的一個，我難以想像倘若沒有媽媽多年來給我的愛與照料，今天的我會變成怎麼樣。每位母親都值得歌頌，可惜很多子女都忘記了這點，就像年少時的我，經常與媽媽作對，她說一我做二，還不時令她為我而哭；這是因為那時的我太自滿，相信自己多過任何人，那份驕傲不容我去聽別人的說話。

但人愈大，自然會用不同的角度看東西，今天我慶幸有這個媽媽，她是世上最值得我疼愛的一個；當然我媽媽也有不完美的一面，但人本來就沒有完美，我們又怎能要求自己的父母十全十美呢？愛一個人，不要奢求她/他變成跟你心目中所想的一模一樣，就像今天的我與媽媽間中都會意見不合，但在我心深處，我知道她所想的每一件事都是為我好的，故就算怎樣，我也一樣愛她。

容我在這裏向我媽媽說出心底話：

「多謝你把我帶來這個世界，我知道當時的你沒有工作，一個女人與兩個女兒在美國生活很艱苦，但你卻沒有把我打掉。

「我要多謝你在我小時候，不辭勞苦地打理幼兒中心，以替人家湊小朋友所賺的酬勞來給我們衣服、食物與教育，我知道身兼父職的確不易，但你卻做到，你是我心中的Super Mom！

「我多謝你對我的包容、寬恕與無限的愛，我知道我曾經為你帶來很多的痛苦，但你對我的愛卻從未變改。

「多謝你這麼多年來替我默默祈禱，若沒有你替我代禱，我好可能一輩子也沒有機會成為牧師，沒有機會認識耶穌，你把我由黑暗帶到光明。」

我希望大家跟我一樣，每一天都找個時候去感激自己的母親，無論你與她關係是好是壞，她也是養育你的一個；倘若你不能與母親意見合一，就放下自己吧，說到底媽媽都是值得我們愛錫。每天也向媽媽說句「I love you」吧！愛媽媽，不用等一年一度的母親節呢！
